#SleeperAgentBeBrave "I'm posting this for my son. The way that he is brave is how he continues to fight a disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is a fatal degenerative muscle disease with no FDA approved treatments or cure. He also has autism and has a fear of medical procedures. My son is part of a clinical drug trial and faces his fears with each visit, where he has endured countless blood tests, brain and heart MRI's, ECG's, Echocardiograms, lung testing, etc. He is being brave for himself and for other boys with Duchenne by helping to advance medicine with this potential treatment." - Karin
BE BRAVE premieres tomorrow! Scott's ready, are you?
#SleeperAgentBeBrave "I was scared as to how my life would play out. Would I be working a full time job my whole life, or would I land my dream job? I don't want to just settle in life. I don't want to just get a plaque to place on the mantle. I finally decided I wanted more out of life. You see; I use to play music in my spare time, and follow my musician friends around. I wasn't sure if I should continue to try to pursue music, or take on Photography. Through the stories of countless numbers of people's lives I kept moving forward. I became "brave" and left college to pursue Photography on my own. As of now I feel as if I am living my dream job." - Sean
#SleeperAgentBeBrave "This is my girlfriend and her 1-year-old (er, 20 months...whatever) son. She recently got out of an unhappy marriage and was staying with a co-worker of ours. Well, it's a long story, but this past weekend, they kicked her out with no notice and nowhere to go. Effectively homeless, they came to stay with me for a few days in the small 2 bedroom apartment I share with my best friend. Today we loaded up our cars and drove from Louisville out to Richmond, KY, where her mom and step-dad live. She's gonna be staying with them for the time being. My own living situation is changing soon, but hopefully next spring/summer I'll actually own my own place and be able to move them in. Until then, it's about a two-hour drive for us to see each other. But we're gonna see each other as often as we can; in fact, i'm driving out there tomorrow afternoon with another carload of their stuff. I'll do whatever it takes to be there for her, and especially for her son, who at such a young age, needs all the love and support he can get from the people around him. I'll be honest, at 21 years old, this is a pretty big leap for me. But I'm finding out that that's what adulthood is about, is being there for the people you love, no matter what. That takes a lot of bravery. But thankfully, these two give me a reason to be brave." - Wesley
#SleeperAgentBeBrave "For me, being brave is needed on almost a daily basis. I am a nurse and primary caregiver to a quadriplegic. For anyone who is in the healthcare field, whether nurse, CNA, or someone caring for a loved one, being brave is something you need to be everyday. Myself, like many nurses, struggle to stay strong only to get in our car and cry, or the supply room (for those in facilities), or the bathroom, (for the times you can't quite make it to the supply room or your car.) It's rewarding helping others, but as a nurse, especially caring for only one person, I'm with someone during the best of times- and the worst. It can not only be physically exhausting, but emotionally as well. And regardless of the situation you are expected to remain composed, unchanged, unaffected, despite at times being grossly mistreated, overworked, unappreciated. Which with any job is trying, but especially in nursing when you give so much of SELF- there are days when I feel as if my soul has been crushed.
What helps me Be Brave is my supportive family, friends, and pets. Writing songs on my guitar has gotten me through some of my worst times to where I can endure, cope, and in the end, Be Brave. When I finish writing a song it is as if the pain that bore it has a release. Other days I take workout dance classes with my friends and while I'm there the only thing I focus on is that moment. But in the end, what keeps me MOVING is music. Whether I am at home listening to my vinyls, my cars Alt Nation (I drive close to 2 hours a day just for work), or MP3s at work. (Although I have started a vinyl collection at work too) music is the driving force in my life.
SLEEPER/AGENT I love you guys, thank you for doing what you do." - Robin
#SleeperAgentBeBrave "The way I am brave is through the strength I am given. As a single mom I find that the way I can #BeBrave is through the love and belief in me every day that my son gives me.
p.s. I did this post for him. He's a Sleeper Agent fan as well." -Kelly
#SleeperAgentBeBrave "Every time I trek to an alt or punk show, alone, only 2 B the oldest, baldest one there... And, ultimately, love every minute of it." - Tom
